Today I had my first fitting for my wedding dress – I was slightly nervous before hand as I bought my dress months ago, and was worried that it may not look as good as I had remembered it to be. However, I was proved wrong, in fact very wrong! I still love it as much as I did back in April, and apart from a few tweaks needed on the shoulders, it fit like a glove….and damn I look good! :)
When I was standing in the dressing room looking at myself in the mirror, all my wedding worries washed away. I forgot about all those small nagging details, and the only thought that was going through my mind, was that I can’t wait until ‘C’ see’s me in this, and I can’t wait to celebrate this fantastic day with him and our friends and family. That is what a wedding is all about, not what colour flowers my bouquet is going to be, or stressing over what we should ‘name’ our tables because God forbid numbering them is just so boring – who cares?
However, knowing myself as well as I do – I do realise that this sense of zen that I am experiencing right now will not last (sorry ‘C’ your stuck with another 2 months of this!) But what I have found that is an amazing stress reliever, is Bikram Yoga – an über intense 1.5 hour yoga session in a room heated to 40ºC. There is just no way you can think about anything remotely pressing during those 90 minutes apart from just trying to survive the class!
Now hot yoga is not for the faint hearted – it is both sweaty and smelly and you contort your body into shapes you did not think was possible – but I have to say, it is the best work out you will ever get, a mixture of cardio and stretch at the same time which (i don’t think) any other work-out can match.
So why put yourself through this torture I here you ask? Well, it’s the feeling afterwards that makes me keep on going back (although sometimes I really REALLY have to push myself). Your whole body just feels so alive and used – especially if you spend all day at a desk. But do you know what the best part is during those 90 minutes? – all your worries and stress just seem to wash away and afterwards you can only really focus on what is important, as that is the only thing you will have any energy for – all the unimportant stuff will just have to wait. Also, it is great for weight loss – Ladies need I say more?
So if anyone in the Mexico City area is in need of not only a fantastic workout, but an hour or so just to focus on your body and leave your mind blank – I highly suggest Bikram Yoga Mexico (www.bikramyogamexico.com) they have studios in Lomas, San Angel, Santa Fe and Polanco. I don’t know anything about the other studios, but the one in Polanco is clean and fresh…well as fresh as any room can be where you have over 30 people copiously sweating and farting in!
Like most gyms in Mexico City, Bikram Yoga is quite pricey – however, I suggest taking the introduction course which I think is around MX250 for a week or 7 lessons, and you can see if you like it or not. But a word of advise, you have to give Bikram Yoga at least 3 chances before you can make up your mind if this is for you!
I have been going on and off for the last 2 years…and I’m still deciding if it is for me….yet somehow I keep on going back, and I console myself with one thought – at least its not nude yoga!
Oh thank goodness you’re the reason for the increased views on the Nude Yoga post – I thought I had a fresh influx of pervs!!! I love yoga but I’ve never tried Bikram… Now I’m stuck with trying to get the vision of nude Bikram yogis out of my head!
Ha ha ha – no it was just me :) and the image of nude bikram yogis is so much worse than just normal nude yogis! But on another note – you should really give bikram a try – a fantastic workout!
Kneading some dough or choping veggies is my yoga and the kitchen is my temple…
that’s work for me since yoga is balancing mind, spirit and soul.
Hahahaha!! I went months ago with my niece and was NOT warned ahead of time how how hot it would be in there!! Needless to say, the 1st time I had to leave the room a couple times. By the 5th visit, I knew it wasn’t for me. I do plan on trying a different kind of yoga though, mainly because it really is such a stress reliever =)
Oh my girlfriend wants me to try this, but I’ve been afraid I’d die of a heart attack during the class!!!
