Best Tourist Attraction in Mexico City – My Personal Favourites!

Mexico City can be rather overwhelming the first time you visit this colossal city. There is so much to see and do, but where to start? Here are my top ten absolute favourite places to go when we have guests in town, and I thought I would share them with you.

San Miguel de Allende

Roughly three hours north of Mexico City lies the beautiful colonial city of San Miguel de Allende  – or SMA as the locals call it. Declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2008, San Miguel de Allende truly has a magical feel surrounding it. With its well preserved Baroque architecture and layout, coupled with its vibrant mix of people, SMA is a destination worth visiting in Mexico. Keep Reading

Cusco and Machu Picchu – The Lazy Man’s Tour

As many of you know, C and I got married in Lima last March. It was an amazing wedding which we got to celebrate and share with our closest and dearest family and friends. It truly was one of the best days of our lives – and all those months of hard work and planning really paid off.

Due to our somewhat crazy international lifestyle, we had over 90 overseas guests attend our wedding! Seriously – C and I should have received commission from the Peruvian Tourism Board?!

Twenty-Four Hours in Copenhagen

Ever since C started to visit Sweden (in total 3 times in the 4 years I have known him) it has become our tradition to spend a night in Copenhagen. This makes more sense when you realise that my parents have their house in Skåne which is in the South of Sweden and our closest international airport is in fact Copenhagen, Denmark and that is where we always fly into.

20 Astonishing Holiday Complaints

I was taking a little break (procrastinating) from my Spanish revision (I have yet another Spanish test this evening) and was browsing an online travel magazine that I have recently come across called Wanderlust (www.wanderlust.co.uk). I really can’t believe it has taken me so long to find this website, it really is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in travel, and looking at pretty pictures of far-off destinations *sigh*

Sommar, Sommar, Sommar

Hello friends, I am back!

Initially I was going to write  about the wonderful summer holiday I had in Sweden, but as the saying goes a picture can tell a thousand words. So I wanted to share these lovely pictures with you – give you a taste of what a Swedish summer is all about! I think you will understand quite quickly why there is no-where in the world that I would rather be, than in my house in Mölle during the summer…spending time with my family, eating good food, and just relaxing in the garden and enjoying the beauty that is Sweden.

A Peruvian Adventure

I have been wanting to write about Peru since I touched down in Mexico City a few months ago, but every time I sat down and placed fingertips to keypad, my mind would start to whirl into a mad frenzy. All the sights, sounds, smells and experiences would spin in front of me just out of arms reach – and I found it impossible to pin down my thoughts and form them into anything meaningful.

Puebla: City-Break

It was Memorial day last Monday – which meant that ‘C’ got the day off. I love the fact that he gets both Mexican and American holidays off – as it means we can get the chance to organise lots of little weekend trips to explore this amazing country we are living in.

So, last weekend, we, together with a few friends of ours decided to spend a night in Puebla an absolutely beautiful city about a two hours drive East of Mexico City. For anyone living in Mexico City, or visiting for a few days I would highly recommend taking the opportunity to go and explore this old city. The drive is incredibly easy (although it may not be the most interesting of drives) and relatively fast, in fact ‘C’ and I have said that we would actually consider doing it as a day trip.

From Exploding Ovens to our Trip to Peru

Well this weeks cooking efforts was abruptly halted on Sunday when our temperamental old oven decided she had had enough and blew-up. Yes, you read it right – our gas oven had a small explosion!! Luckily, the only casualties of the blast were ‘C’s ‘ leg hair – which were singed to black stubs, and the stench of burnt hair permeated through the apartment! Keep Reading

Casa Colonial Bed & Breakfast in Oaxaca

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

During our stay in Oaxaca, we stayed at Casa Colonial – a hotel/B&B that was recommended to ‘C’ by one of his colleagues. Casa Colonial is owned and run by an American woman who has been living in Oaxaca for almost 20 years. She and her husband bought the casa from another American couple and have obviously poured their heart and soul into the place – tragically, her husband was killed in a car accident a couple of years ago on his way back from the States to Oaxaca – and she decided to continue running the hotel on her own.
