Those of you who are regular readers of The Travelling Chopsticks, know that Jamie Oliver is one of my favourite chefs. Not only do I really enjoy his cookbooks and recipes as they are consistently spot on, but I love and support what he stands for: Bringing back real food to our tables.
Jamie Oliver’s current campaign I feel is one of his most important to date – to put compulsory practical food education on the school curriculum. Today, with over 42 million children under the age of five overweight or obese in the world, it is time to act!
“By educating children about food in a practical, fun and engaging way, we can provide them with the knowledge and skills they so urgently need to lead healthier, happier lives. We need to make practical food education a compulsory part of every school curriculum across the world, and that’s why I’ve launched a petition calling on all G20 countries to action this. With enough support from millions of people around the world, I truly believe that we can create a movement that’s powerful enough to make governments take action.” Jamie Oliver
I can’t tell you how many times I have met people my own age that tell me ‘they don’t know how to cook’ or tell me with a slight smug smile ‘I don’t cook!’ These people have not only lost a life skill, but by relying solely on ready-made, processed meals they are endangering the health of themselves and their families.
Let’s bring real food back into our lives and inspire governments to do the right thing: Sign It. Share It. Fighting for food education for every child #FoodRevolutionDay change.org/jamieoliver
This is great. I support it wholeheartedly.
Cooking is something everyone needs to appreciate (I was lucky, my mom taught us ~ more like we were just a part of making dinner, she is an amazing in that she taught us without us thinking we were being taught!). Cheers ~
I think that is the best way to learn! Just picking things up naturally and taking the pressure off! If I was to have children – this is what I would like to do with them!
I used to watch Jamie Oliver’s Show early on, when his star just started to rise. His efforts are – as much as I know – great. Healthy eating is so essential for a happy life. Great post, thanks for sharing.
